Oakland
The Town of Oakland is a semi-rural community in Orange County, FL, of about 1,300 residents, and located 17 miles west of downtown Orlando.
It is a charming small town on the southern shores of Lake Apopka, known for its old magestic oak trees, historic landmarks and its down-home atmosphere and few paved roads.
Many residents have chosen to commute to Orlando and live in this quiet, unpretentious, close-knit town, many of whose residents are descendants of the original settlers. Oakland's residents often equate the Town to a "sophisticated Mayberry."
Oakland is home to one of the first green certified communities in Central Florida: Oakland Park.
